Winter RumChata Margarita – The Prettiest Creamy Christmas Cocktail

If there’s one thing I love during the holiday season, it’s a cocktail that not only tastes delicious but looks absolutely beautiful sitting on a Christmas table! And this Winter RumChata Margarita is exactly that.

It’s creamy, a little sweet, perfectly balanced with fresh lime, and has just the right amount of tequila. But what really makes this cocktail special is how pretty it looks once you add a few fresh cranberries, a sprig of rosemary, and a light dusting of powdered sugar to give it that snowy Christmas finish.

Honestly, it looks like a little winter wonderland in a glass!

Whether you’re hosting a Christmas party, having a cozy night at home, or looking for something festive to serve on Christmas Eve, this is such a fun and easy cocktail to make.

And if you love creamy holiday cocktails as much as I do, you’ll also want to try my North Pole White Chocolate RumChata Punch or my Snowy Coconut Christmas Punch. Both are delicious options for holiday entertaining!

A Creamy Twist on a Classic Margarita

I absolutely love a traditional margarita, but there’s something about adding RumChata that completely transforms it into the perfect winter cocktail.

Instead of your typical refreshing summertime margarita, this version has a creamy, smooth texture with hints of cinnamon and vanilla from the RumChata.

The tequila and orange liqueur still give you those classic margarita flavors, while the fresh lime juice adds just enough citrus to balance out the sweetness.

It’s such a delicious combination, and I especially love how the RumChata gives the cocktail that beautiful snowy-white appearance.

It feels a little fancy, but the best part is that you only need four main ingredients!

Why You’ll Love This Winter RumChata Margarita

There are so many reasons this cocktail deserves a spot on your holiday drink menu.

First, it’s incredibly easy to make. Everything goes into a cocktail shaker, gets shaken with ice, and is poured into your favorite glass.

Second, the combination of creamy RumChata, tequila, and fresh citrus makes this drink a little different from the traditional Christmas cocktails you see every year.

And finally, the presentation is just gorgeous!

The creamy white cocktail paired with bright red cranberries and fresh green rosemary gives you all those classic Christmas colors without needing any food coloring or complicated ingredients.

Add a little powdered sugar for that snowy look, and you have the prettiest holiday margarita.

The Secret to Making It Look Like a Snowy Christmas Cocktail

This is probably my favorite part of the entire recipe!

Once you’ve shaken your cocktail and poured it over fresh ice, you’re going to add a few fresh cranberries and a beautiful sprig of rosemary.

The rosemary almost looks like a tiny Christmas tree, especially when you lightly dust it with powdered sugar.

I like using a small fine-mesh strainer to sprinkle just a tiny amount of powdered sugar over the top. You really don’t need much!

It creates such a pretty snowy finish and makes the cocktail look extra festive.

This is one of those little decorating tricks that takes an everyday drink and makes it feel perfect for Christmas entertaining.

My tip: Add the powdered sugar right before serving so it has that freshly fallen snow appearance. It will gradually dissolve once it touches the cocktail.

What Does a Winter RumChata Margarita Taste Like?

If you’ve never mixed RumChata into a margarita before, you’re in for a treat!

RumChata has a creamy texture with warm cinnamon and vanilla flavors that work surprisingly well with tequila.

The orange liqueur brings a touch of citrus sweetness, while the fresh lime juice gives it that familiar margarita tang.

The finished cocktail is creamy and slightly sweet, with a refreshing citrus finish.

Because RumChata is a cream-based liqueur, the acidity from the lime can sometimes cause slight curdling or separation. Shaking everything with plenty of ice and serving immediately helps keep the drink smooth.

I definitely recommend using freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor.

Perfect for Christmas Parties and Holiday Gatherings

One thing I always say is that you don’t need to make entertaining complicated.

Sometimes it’s the simplest little details that make everything feel special.

A pretty cocktail glass, a few cranberries, some fresh rosemary, and a light dusting of powdered sugar can make such a beautiful presentation.

I especially love the idea of serving these Winter RumChata Margaritas during a Christmas cocktail night with friends, a holiday girls’ night, or even while decorating the Christmas tree.

And if you’re hosting a larger holiday party and want something you can prepare for a crowd, my Snowy Coconut Christmas Punch is another gorgeous white Christmas cocktail to add to your menu.

Can You Make This Margarita Ahead of Time?

Because this cocktail contains RumChata and fresh lime juice, I recommend making it right before you’re ready to serve.

Cream-based liqueurs can react with acidic ingredients, so preparing it too far ahead could affect the texture.

The good news is that this drink takes just a couple of minutes to make!

You can have all your ingredients measured out, cranberries washed, rosemary sprigs ready, and glasses prepared ahead of time.

Then all you have to do is shake, pour, garnish, and enjoy.

A Festive Winter Cocktail Worth Making

I just love how simple yet beautiful this Winter RumChata Margarita is.

It’s creamy, festive, full of delicious holiday flavors, and has that gorgeous snowy presentation that makes it feel extra special.

Whether you’re making one for yourself or serving a few while entertaining friends and family, this is definitely one of those Christmas cocktails that will look beautiful on your holiday table.

So grab your favorite margarita glass, turn on those Christmas lights, and enjoy a little winter magic in a glass.

Cheers, and happy holidays!

Ribbed Wine Glasses

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz tequila (blanco or silver tequila works best)
¾ oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec)
    1 oz RumChata
¾ oz freshly squeezed lime juice
    Ice, for shaking and serving
    Fresh cranberries, for garnish
1 fresh rosemary sprig, for garnish
Powdered sugar, for a light snowy dusting

Directions

  • 1. Prepare your cocktail shaker. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
    2. Add the ingredients. Pour in the tequila, orange liqueur, RumChata, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
    3. Shake well. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for approximately 10–15 seconds until everything is chilled and combined.
    4. Pour over ice. Fill a wine glass, margarita glass or festive cocktail glass with fresh ice. Strain the mixture into the glass.
    5. Add the Christmas garnishes. Place a few fresh cranberries on top and tuck a fresh rosemary sprig into the glass.
    6. Create the snowy finish. Using a small fine-mesh strainer, lightly dust the cranberries and rosemary with powdered sugar to create that beautiful snowy Christmas appearance.
    7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Tip: Since RumChata contains cream and lime juice is acidic, slight separation can happen. Use cold ingredients, shake with ice, and serve immediately for the best texture. If it begins to curdle noticeably, remake it rather than serving a grainy cocktail.
