Why You’ll Love These Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots

There are so many reasons these are going to become one of your favorite Halloween party recipes!

  • Only a few ingredients: You don’t need anything complicated to make these adorable Halloween treats.
  • Two fun colors: Make classic white ghosts with lemon Jell-O and white food coloring, or spooky red ghosts with raspberry Jell-O.
  • Perfect for entertaining: Prepare them ahead of time so they’re ready when your guests arrive.
  • Alcoholic or non-alcoholic: Make them with vodka for adults or swap in water for a kid-friendly version.
  • Such a cute presentation: The ghost shapes and little black faces make them perfect for your Halloween party spread.

White Ghost Jell-O Shots vs. Red Ghost Jell-O Shots

One of my favorite things about this recipe is that you can easily change the color depending on the look you’re going for.

White Ghost Jell-O Shots

For the classic white ghost look, I like using lemon Jell-O as the base. Once you’ve combined all your ingredients, simply add white food coloring and mix until you get that pretty, opaque white color.

The lemon flavor keeps them light and refreshing, while the white color gives them that traditional little ghost appearance.

Red Ghost Jell-O Shots

If you want something a little more colorful and spooky, raspberry Jell-O is perfect!

The raspberry flavor gives the ghosts a beautiful red color without needing any additional food coloring. Once they’re set, add the same little black eyes and mouth.

You could even make a batch of each and serve them together!

How to Make Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots

These couldn’t be easier, which is exactly what I love when I’m preparing for a party!

Start by combining one packet of your chosen Jell-O flavor with three packets of unflavored gelatin.

Next, pour in one cup of boiling water and whisk until everything is completely dissolved.

Once the mixture has cooled slightly, stir in one cup of vodka. If you’re making a non-alcoholic version, simply replace the vodka with one cup of cold water.

If you’re making the white ghosts, this is when you’ll add your white food coloring. Stir until the color is evenly distributed and the mixture is a pretty, milky white.

For the raspberry ghosts, no additional food coloring is necessary!

Carefully pour the mixture into your silicone ghost molds and refrigerate for at least one to two hours, or until they’re completely firm. I recommend giving them a full two hours, or longer if needed, so they’re easier to remove from the molds.

Once they’re fully set, gently pop them out and use a black edible food marker to draw on two little eyes and a ghost-shaped mouth.

And that’s it! The cutest little Halloween ghosts ready for your party!

Tips for Making Perfect Ghost Jell-O Shots

Use silicone ghost molds. These are definitely the easiest way to create adorable little ghosts without having to cut or shape the Jell-O yourself.

Don’t rush the chilling time. I recommend at least two hours in the refrigerator so they’re completely firm before removing them from the molds.

Add white food coloring gradually. When making the white ghosts, start with a small amount of food coloring and add more until you achieve your desired color. Make sure it’s food-safe and suitable for gelatin mixtures.

Test your edible marker first. Gelatin can be slippery, so lightly blot the surface and use a marker designed to work on moist foods. A small food-safe brush with black edible coloring can also work.

Make them ahead of time. These are perfect to prepare the night before a Halloween party. Just store them covered in the refrigerator and decorate them closer to serving time.

Can You Make These Halloween Jell-O Shots Without Alcohol?

Absolutely!

If you’re hosting a family-friendly Halloween party or making these for kids, simply swap the one cup of vodka for one cup of cold water.

You’ll still get the same adorable ghost shapes and fruity flavors without the alcohol.

If you’re making both versions for a party, I recommend placing the alcoholic and non-alcoholic ghosts on separate, clearly labeled platters so there’s no confusion.

How to Serve Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots

Presentation is half the fun with this recipe!

I love the idea of arranging these little ghosts on a matte black platter or Halloween serving tray. The white and red colors really stand out, especially with a few mini pumpkins, subtle cobweb decorations, or little battery-operated candles around the display.

You could also create an entire Halloween cocktail and treat station with these Jell-O shots alongside my Midnight Blackberry Punch or Haunted Harvest Mojito Punch.

Can You Make Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots Ahead of Time?

Yes! In fact, I think these are even better when you make them ahead.

You can prepare the Jell-O mixture, fill the silicone molds, and refrigerate the ghosts the night before your party.

Once they’re completely set, gently remove them from their molds and store them in a covered container in the refrigerator.

For the best presentation, wait until shortly before serving to add the black faces. This helps prevent the coloring from smudging on the gelatin.

I recommend enjoying them within two to three days for the best texture and appearance.

The Perfect Spooky Treat for Halloween Entertaining

Whether you’re hosting a big Halloween party, having a few friends over for spooky cocktails, or planning a fun Halloween movie night, these Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots are such a cute addition to your celebration!

I especially love that you can make white ghosts, red ghosts, or a combination of both. They’re festive, easy to prepare, and look adorable displayed together.

And with the option to make them alcoholic or non-alcoholic, there’s a version for just about any Halloween celebration.

If you make these little ghosts, I’d love to see how they turn out!

Happy Halloween and cheers to spooky season!

GHOST SILICONE MOLDS

Ingredients

  • Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots — Ingredients

    1 (3 oz) box lemon Jell-O

3 (¼ oz each) packets unflavored gelatin

    1 cup boiling water

    1 cup vodka

    White food coloring, as needed

    Black edible food marker

Directions

  • Halloween Ghost Jell-O Shots — Directions

    1. Combine one 3-ounce packet of lemon or raspberry Jell-O with three ¼-ounce packets unflavored gelatin in a heat-safe bowl.

    2. Add 1 cup boiling water and whisk for about 2 minutes until dissolved.
Cool slightly, then stir in 1 cup vodka or cold water.

    3. For white ghosts, add food-safe white coloring until opaque. Skip coloring for red raspberry ghosts.
    Pour into silicone ghost molds.

    4. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or until completely firm, longer if needed.

    5. Gently remove ghosts from molds.

    6. Blot surfaces and add two eyes and a mouth with a suitable black edible food marker, or food coloring and a fine brush.

    7. Keep chilled until serving.
  • Equipment Needed: Ghost-shaped silicone molds, medium mixing bowl, whisk, measuring cup with a spout, black edible food marker.
Storage: Keep refrigerated in a covered container for up to 2–3 days for best quality. Add the faces just before serving.
Important tip: Three packets of unflavored gelatin help the ghosts hold their shape when removed from the silicone molds. The exact chilling time depends on mold size. White food coloring should be approved for food use and mixed thoroughly before pouring into the molds.
My presentation suggestion: Make one batch of white lemon ghosts and one batch of red raspberry ghosts, then alternate them on a long, black serving platter. This would look especially adorable as part of a Halloween tablescape with little pumpkins and soft candlelight.
