I love creating sangria recipes like this because they are not only easy to make, but they are also designed to impress. The vibrant pink hue, floating mint leaves, and juicy watermelon chunks make it just as stunning visually as it is delicious.
If you love fruity, refreshing drinks like my tropical sangria recipes or summer party punch ideas, this one is going to become a staple in your rotation.
Why This Watermelon Mint Sangria Works So Well
This watermelon mint sangria with Pinot Grigio is all about balance. Every ingredient plays a key role in building layers of flavor that complement each other perfectly.
The Pinot Grigio provides a crisp, clean base that allows the watermelon flavor to really shine. It’s light enough not to overpower the fruit, yet structured enough to hold everything together. The addition of white rum gives the drink a subtle tropical depth, while the orange liqueur adds that bright citrus note that ties everything together.
Fresh watermelon is truly the star of the show here. Whether you choose to muddle it for a slightly chunkier texture or blend it into a smooth watermelon juice, it brings a natural sweetness that feels refreshing rather than heavy. Pair that with fresh mint leaves, and you get that cooling, almost spa-like finish that makes this drink so incredibly easy to sip.
Topping everything off with Prosecco adds a light effervescence that elevates the entire drink, giving it that bubbly, celebratory feel—perfect for entertaining.
Ingredient Breakdown & Why They Work Together
- Pinot Grigio – A crisp, dry white wine that keeps the sangria light and refreshing
- White Rum – Adds a subtle tropical note and depth without overpowering the drink
- Orange Liqueur – Brings citrus brightness and enhances the fruit flavors
- Simple Syrup – Balances acidity and enhances the natural sweetness of the watermelon
- Brandy (Optional) – Adds warmth and a slightly richer, more traditional sangria flavor
- Fresh Watermelon – The star ingredient, providing natural sweetness and vibrant color
- Fresh Mint Leaves – Adds a cooling, refreshing finish that elevates the drink
- Prosecco – Light bubbles that make the sangria feel festive and refreshing
How to Make Watermelon Mint Sangria
Start by preparing your watermelon. You can either muddle fresh watermelon chunks directly in your pitcher or blend them into a juice for a smoother texture. Both methods work beautifully depending on the vibe you’re going for.
Next, add your Pinot Grigio, white rum, orange liqueur, and simple syrup into a large pitcher or drink dispenser. If you’re using brandy, this is where you can add it in for an extra layer of depth.
Gently stir everything together, then add in fresh mint leaves. Lightly bruise the mint before adding it to release its natural oils and aroma.
Let the mixture chill in the refrigerator for at least a couple of hours so all the flavors can fully develop and infuse.
Right before serving, top with chilled Prosecco for that perfect bubbly finish. Serve over ice with extra watermelon chunks and mint for garnish.
Tips for the Best Watermelon Sangria
- Use very ripe watermelon for the best natural sweetness and flavor
- Chill all ingredients ahead of time to keep the sangria crisp and refreshing
- Add Prosecco right before serving to maintain the bubbles
- Don’t skip the mint—it truly elevates the entire drink
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup depending on your taste
Make It for a Crowd (Party-Friendly Option)
This watermelon mint sangria for a crowd is perfect for large gatherings because it scales beautifully. Simply multiply the ingredients and prepare it in a large drink dispenser.
For parties, I love prepping everything ahead of time and storing it in the fridge, then adding the Prosecco just before guests arrive. It keeps things easy, stress-free, and still feels elevated and special.
If you’re hosting, this pairs beautifully with other summer entertaining recipes, light appetizers, and fresh fruit platters.

Variations to Try
- Frozen Watermelon Sangria: Blend everything with ice for a slushy version
- Sparkling Watermelon Sangria: Swap Prosecco for sparkling water for a lighter option

Make-Ahead & Storage Tips
You can prepare the base of this sangria up to 24 hours in advance. In fact, letting it sit helps the flavors deepen and blend beautifully. Just wait to add the Prosecco until right before serving so it stays bubbly and fresh.
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and enjoy within 1–2 days for the best flavor.

If you are looking for something super delicious and refreshing this Spring and Summer, then this Watermelon Sangria is for you! Filled with so many different delicious flavors such as fresh watermelon, mint, rum, and white wine. This is one for the books and you will love showing it off to your guests!
Why Choose This Sangria?
This Watermelon Sangria Recipe comes together in just minutes! A normal traditional Sangria is made with chunks of fresh fruit, different spirits and red wine, which will need to sit in the refrigerator for hours in order to develop that rich punch taste. This Watermelon Sangria can be whipped up in minutes and still taste so delicious!
When watching the recipe be made on my Instagram Page, I muddle the fresh Watermelon chunks. However, the most flavorful and easiest way, is to throw your Watermelon chunks into a blender with a little water and blend together. This will make a much smoother and less chunky drink!
What Wine Wine To Use
When mixing up a Sangria recipe, the wine is always key! When making this Watermelon Sangria, I’d say it will all depend on your preference of sweetness. Seeing that the recipe already calls for Simple Syrup, which will sweeten everything up, I’d say stick to a dry white wine. I usually like to use a dry Pinot Grigio in all my white wine sangria recipes. I think it keeps all the other unique flavors in the drink prominent. You can always go to your local liquor store and ask for dry white wine. Keep in mind, you do not want to go for the cheapest bottle, but with all the other flavors in this Sangria, you definitely do not need to break the bank either!

It’s light enough for daytime sipping, yet festive enough for special occasions, making it one of those go-to recipes you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again. 1 Bottle Of Dry White Wine (pinot grigio is my favorite to use)

2 oz White Rum
2 oz Orange Liqueur
1-1.5 oz Simple Syrup
1 oz Brandy (optional)
8-10 Fresh Mint Leaves
Prosecco

- In your Pitcher add your blended watermelon, white wine, rum, orange liqueur, simple syrup, mint leaves and brandy (optional).
- Take a long spoon and stir the contents up (if you have more room in your pitcher you can add a little more of each item) – do this slowly and taste as you go
- In your wine glass, add ice at least 3/4 of the way to the top.
- Pour your Sangria over the top until it reaches 3/4 of the way.
- Top off with Prosecco or Sparkling Water
- Enjoy!
- NOTE ** you can always make this ahead of time and store in the refrigerator.
- NOTE ** double the recipe for larger pitchers

This looks yummy!! I assume the rum/watermelon mix gets mixed with the wine and then topped with Prosecco? I don’t see the wine step.
Hi! Sorry just updated the recipe!
I still don’t see that step of when to add wine
Hi! It’s there! It’s listed under #2 in the directions!
What white wine do you use
I usually use a dry Pinot Grigio!
Thank you!!
