A slight tropical twist on the Long Island Iced Tea, this drink was concocted by my cousins friend who live in Hawaii for a few years. As a bartender there, this was one of the most popular drinks he made for his customers. A huge hit on the island, and now I’m sharing it with you!
If you are looking for a delicious tropical cocktail, well then you will have to try this recipe! It’s filled with a ton of different flavors that will make you feel like you are sipping this drink on your favorite island. This cocktail has two different kinds of rum, vodka, two citrus juices as well as grenadine to make it the ultimate fruity, tangy and smooth cocktail your heart has desired!
What Is In A Long Island Iced Tea?
The Long Island Iced Tea is typically made up of equal parts of all the light colored spirits. Vodka, Rum, Tequila, Gin and Triple Sec. Shaken together and pour over ice in a tall cocktail glass. Then topped off with Sour Mix and a little bit of Coca Cola. This is a very popular but STRONG cocktail! Basically the entire drink is alcohol aside from about 2 oz of Sour Mix and 1 oz of Cola! So when ordering and drinking this delicious drink, make sure to take it slow!
What Is In A Hawaiian Iced Tea?
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this delicious twist on the Long Island Iced Tea.
RUM
For this drink, you will be using two different kinds of Rum. First you will need to get a Spiced Rum. I typically like to use Captain Morgan. Next you will need to get a Coconut Flavored Rum. My top pick for this always is Malibu.
VODKA
You can use any kind of regular flavored Vodka that you’d like. However, when choosing this, always try and stick to a high quality brand. Some of my favorites are: Tito’s, Chopin, Kettle One, Grey Goose.
AMARETTO
Amaretto is a nutty flavored liquor. I usually love to use Disaronno, however it can get quite pricey in the liquor stores. Sometimes you can find a small bottle to use so you don’t have to get such a large one just for a small drink. However, if you do not want to go with this brand due to price, then almost any other brand will do!
ORANGE JUICE
Any bottled, canned or carton of Orange Juice will work just fine with this drink!
PINEAPPLE JUICE
Any canned or bottled pineapple juice will work great with this!
GRENADINE
This pomegranate syrup can be found at any local liquor store and is not expensive to buy!
What Is Grenadine?
Grenadine is a pomegranate flavored syrup that is used in many cocktails, non-alcohol drinks and sometimes even when cooking. This definitely is one of the ingredients that turns this from the Long Island Iced Tea to the Hawaiian tropical cocktail! It’s actually pretty simple to make yourself at home if you’d like as well. It only takes a few simple ingredients, pomegranate juice as well as sugar. This syrup is best known for it’s relevance in the nostalgic drink – The Shirley Temple.
